Karthigai Deepam (November-December) falls in the Tamil month of Karthigai, when the constellation of the star Krittika is in conjunction with the full moon. The lamp is lit on Arunachala to mark the unique event of the appearance of Siva as the light on the Holy Hill. The event is celebrated in the kendram by lighting lamps and chanting Arunachala Siva
